Shippou 七宝 Seven treasures

While the name translated as “seven treasures,” this is not the exact meaning of the pattern. “Shippou” is a repeating, circular pattern, with each circle comprised of four equally-sized pieces. Each segment is used as a part of another circle.

The name “seven treasures” comes about as a representative of the seven treasures in Buddhism.

You don’t need to be Buddhist or know about Buddhism to wear this pattern, as it is simply a good omen bringing forth harmony, happiness, and good karma. The connected circles also represent how connected and important relationships are.

Sometimes you’ll see flowers inside of the circles, though this is mainly for decoration.
