About - Kimono Dream Shop | 着物夢屋

Explore generations of skill and atristry in the world of kimonos.

Based in Kyoto, Japan, we here at Kimono Dream Shop (a segment of Hanami Clothing) hope to help everyone across the globe explore the world of kimonos and the artistry of the fabric and patterns. We started this shop to share generations of magnificent craftsmanship and history with those both new and experienced with kimonos.

We have well over 3,000 kimonos, obis, haoris, and obijimes waiting for their new homes. Explore what we have and send us a message if you have any special requests.

Almost everything that we sell is vintage, so there will usually be signs of age and use. Make sure to look at the photos and descriptions to learn more about each piece.

We also aim to be the most honest kimono seller online regarding quality, age, and fabric content.

Instead of simply saying "great condition," we give closeup photos of stains and state what types of stains there are and where they're located.
We use dated fabric and historical documentation to determine age, such as fabric bolts with date stamps, destitched and cleaned kimono fabric that has labels stating when the fabric was cleaned, and photographs of art techniques and trends throughout the years.
In conjunction with our kimono upcycling business (Hanami Clothing), we perform burn tests to better understand what type of fabric each kimono is made out of. We have performed burn tests on over 100 different Japanese fabrics to better understand the products we sell.

We are also currently working on a ~100 page PDF detailing Japanese patterns and their meanings, specifically when used on kimonos and kimono accessories. We will make this free to our customers once we have the first version finished.

The recent global shipping difficulties have caused delays in shipments, but please head to our blog to learn more about shipping estimates, or send us a message and we can give you some more detailed information.
